Nomination of Primate Lodge Kibale
Since the opening in July 2007, Primate Lodge Kibale has been hosting
many internation al
guests, from journalists to famous Hollywood actresses and directors
of tour companies.
The half year anniversary was honoured by a nomination for Investor
of the Year Award. During the celebration, President Museveni came
personally to congratule the nominees for their excellent performance.
Primate Lodge Kibale was awarded a certificate with special recognition
for their exemplary efforts and exceptional contribution to the
tourism sector.
2. Uganda on Dutch television
In 2007 our country was visited by different international
TV companies, including the famous Dutch actor Johnny de Mol and
his crew. 
In the documentary "Waar is de Mol?" Johnny de Mol travels
with his well-known guests to different African countries. An adventurous
journey full of emotions, discoveries, impressions and great challenges!
Besides, the entertaining program does not only show the captivating
experiences of the Dutch, but also portrays the highlights of the
country including Murchison Falls, gorilla tracking and the Source
of the Nile.
"Waar
is de Mol?" has been broadcasted on Veronica from February
2008 and the filming in Uganda was supported by Great Lakes Safaris.

Gorilla groups in Bwindi National Park
Of the 700 mountain gorillas worldwide, Bwindi Impenetrable
National Park is home to more than half of the gorilla population.
And thanks to the wildlife conservation program, the number has
increased from 300 to 340 in the recent years.
According to the 2006 Gorilla census, Bwindi has a total of 30 groups,
compared to the 28 groups in 1997. The number in each group varies
between 3 and 28, while 11 solitary males are living without a family
yet. Of the 30 groups, 4 families are fully habituated and can be
visited daily. Because of the increase in the gorilla population
and the continued health status, Uganda Wildlife Authority has started
a habituation process for two more gorilla groups: Rushaga and Ruhija.
It is likely that this year both groups will be open for a limited
number of tourists.

Great Lakes Safaris on the run
In December 2007 Great Lakes Safaris participated in the
yearly event of the MTN International Marathon in Kampala. The safari
company was represented by ten fanatic runners  who
proudly stood out in the mass of more than 6,000 registered participants.
By participating, Great Lakes Safaris wanted to bring out its social
responsibility towards the needy cases in the country, since the
financial contribution supported our fellow citizens who
have been affected by the conflicts and the heavy floods in Northern
Uganda.
