Welcome to the second edition of the Great Lakes Safaris Newsletter 2010. In this newsletter we will update you about the latest visit from a Hollywood star, reflect our presence at various international exhibitions and advise how you can connect to us on Facebook! And we will talk about the 2010 World Cup... Because this is Africa!

In this month's newsletter:

1. World Cup in Africa
The World Cup has just kicked off and the whole continent of Africa seems to be bustling! Not only our 'neighbours' in South Africa are celebrating but also here in Uganda you can experience the fun and excitement. And even in Great Lakes Safaris office, the World Cup matches are a hot topic. Thanks to the international mix of our team different countries are passionately supported, including USA, Netherlands, England and of course South Africa.

But Africa is more than the World Cup! Are you one of the lucky people who has booked a trip to this world event? Or are you just waiting until the excitement has cooled down a bit? 2. Uganda at Indaba & IMEX
The month of May was mainly dedicated to the attendance of two major exhibitions: Indaba in Durban from 8-11 May and IMEX in Frankfurt from 25-27 May 2010. Although the fairs were held in different countries and attracted a completely different market, they were equally a major success!

We would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to everyone who visited our stand during the shows and for showing interest in Uganda. Hopefully our introduction has contributed to a better understanding of the country and our products, and proved that Uganda has so much to offer, not only as a safari destination but also for the business travelers!

We are looking forward to meeting you again next year!

3. Hollywood star returns to the jungle
That Uganda's dense tropical forest has a magical, irresistable attraction to its visitors, was clearly proven when Hollywood celebrity Simon Curtis returned to Uganda last month. He was among the team of Hollywood stars who visited Uganda in September for the Friend-a-Gorilla launch.

Together with several popular Ugandan artists he tracked again the mountain gorillas in Bwindi National Park. In addition, he also visited an orphanage, a gorilla clinic and a community hospital which are all benefitting from the gorilla tourism. This time Simon Curtis was accompanied by MOJO Entertainment to shoot a documentary on Uganda and which will be broadcasted in the USA.

5. Simba Safari Camp rewiew
On our fourth day we arrived at Simba Safari Camp just outside Queen Elizabeth National Park. We reach the camp without any problem as it is clearly signposted at the junction in Kikorongo (2 km North of the Equator) on the road from Ishaka towards Kasese. Upon our arrival Apollo, the manager welcomed us and was happy to show us around.

The camp is new and only opened for guests late in 2008, when former offices were reconstructed into semi-detached cottages and dormitories. The result is commendable with each room having a self-contained bathroom and its own veranda to enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains.

6. Permits availability
For 2010 and even next year we still have permits available. Thus if you want to track the mountain gorillas on any of the following dates, you are guaranteed of a permit!
          24 July 2010          2 permits available
          30 August 2010     6 permits available
          12 August 2011     4 permits available
          20 August 2011     4 permits available

Permits can be booked in combination with a tour to other national parks, completely adapted to your wishes. But book early as competition is high!

7. Safari testimonial

Primate Lodge in Kibale, Mweya Safari Lodge and Buhoma Lodge were excellent in all regards. Also the nature guides and wildlife viewing during our trip were excellent and most enjoyable. The chimpanzee trek was fantastic and what a thrill it was to follow the mountain gorillas through the steep jungle for an hour!
