Day
1: RAFTING THE NILE
Ready
for a full day of adventure? Then start rafting at the Source
of the Nile. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and thundering
rapids of the White Nile. And do not forget to watch the
incredible birdlife as you drift quietly between the rapids
of the river.
Those who prefer a more peaceful experience can also decide
to go for a wonderful river journey. Instead of choosing
the wildest rapids, we drift swiftly between beautiful forested
islands, bounce down smaller rapids and explore the least
known channels.
At the end of this exciting day we head back to Kampala
for overnight at Kings Holiday Inn.
For upgrade you can stay at Le
Petit Village.
Day
2: KAMPALA - FORT PORTAL
After breakfast we will depart Kampala and head west to
Fort Portal. Driving through the verdant countryside we

small villages, swamps and parts of tropical rainforest
we continue our walk to Lake Nkuruba for overnight at simple
bandas.

towards the border with Rwanda. Here you will find Lake
Bunyonyi, the deepest lake in Uganda. Dinner and overnight
at Bunyonyi Overland Camp.
For upgrade you can stay at Arcadia
Cottages.
Day
8: CANOE TREKKING
After
a hearty breakfast, we will
depart the mainland and start peddling. Our first stop is
Bushara, an island campsite where a glass of fresh juice
will refresh us after a half-hour walk through eucalyptus
forests full of birds. We will then visit Bwama Island,
a former leper colony.
We will canoe past Punishment Island, an islet where pregnant
unmarried girls used to be left to die, to the slightly
bigger Sharp's island. A couple of hours in our dugouts
will take us to a peaceful swimming spot, not far away from
our final destination. Opposite Kyevu market lives a friendly
family who will welcome us with obushera (local beer), allow
us to pitch our tents in front of their grass-thatched home,
and treat us with excellent local food. We will climb to
the top of their peninsula as well, to see one of the humblest
primary schools of the Bunyonyi area, plus a gorgeous view.
Day
9: CANOE TREKKING
After
breakfast we will cross to Kyevu. We will bid a temporary
farewell to our canoe captains and embark on a day of trekking.
The first hour will be spent near a pretty, extensive swamp.
We will run into a Batwa tribe who try to earn some money
carrying heavy loads to the market. Just before the border
with Rwanda we will find a steep slope that rises into Karembe
Hill. Climbing this hill we will enjoy a great view at Bunyonyi
and the volcano Muhavura.
After a picnic lunch we will descent gradually and stop
for a meeting with local woman who manage a craft shop.
Our dugouts will be waiting at Bufundi peninsula and bring
us to Habukomi Island for overnight.
Day
10: CANOE TREKKING
Habukomi
is the lake hideaway for pelicans, so we will visit these
birds just after breakfast. Then we will paddle closer to
Upside Down Island to hear its witchcraft legend. Another
hour and a half in the canoes will bring us back to our
home bay, but we will make one final stop - to enjoy the
delicious cousine of Nature's Prime Island. In the afternoon
the canoe trekking will be completed with our dugouts landing
at the mainland again. Dinner and overnight at Bunyonyi
Overland Camp.
For upgrade you can stay at Arcadia
Cottages.
